Local Activism

STRENGTHENING

To some, the word "Activism" is a strong, perhaps scary, word. In reality, being an activist just means that you are committed to raising your voice and actions for positive change. Regardless where your passion is, RiseNWI is here to help you strengthen your voice!

Below are a few ideas to begin your path to activism.

1. EDUCATE OTHERS

Have conversations with others, and learn what your friends, family and neighbors care most about, too. You never know, they might share the same passion as you!

2. FOLLOW LEGISLATION

Be involved in your state government. You can easily track Indiana legislation online with the Indiana General Assembly. It's also important to express your support, or disapproval, on specific bills by contacting your elected officials. You can view your elected officials, along with contact information, by visiting the Indiana General Assembly, find your legislator tool.

3. CREATE PUBLIC AWARENESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Digital public awareness campaigns are a great way to educate individuals about an issue to inspire change. Use sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and Tik Tok as a vehicle for raising issues and effecting change, especially by young people. Visit RiseNWI's public Google Drive to utilize our digital outreach graphics.

4. GET THE PRESS INVOLVED

Writing to your local media is a great way to share your message. Before you begin writing your op-ed, be sure to visit the media company's website to view op-ed requirements; text limits and required information are different for each company.
